Chapter 611
Third Person’s POV
Publius stood up, ready to lead Adelaide to his study.
After a couple of steps, he turned back to her. “Would my oldest son be able to join us?” he asked politely.
Adelaide knew he meant Cassius.
She knew Cassius’s character, and she also knew Publius didn’t think much of him. Still, she replied, “Sure.”
Cassius was surprised.
He'd always known his father didn’t like him, or at least thought he was too soft, too weak.
When important things cup, Publius always consulted his other sons.
But this time, Publius hadn't called Julius. He'd called him instead. It was completely unexpected.
When they got to the study, Publius had someone light scalming incense.
He had a short fuse, so he always kept the stuff on hand.
But today, it wasn’t for him. It was for Adelaide.
He hoped she'd calm down and forget about waiting outside for an hour and getting a bucket of water dumped
on her.
Once they were seated, Adelaide got straight to the point. “I already went to the palace and reported the
situation to Lycan Erasmus yesterday. He's already recognized Hunt's breeder and daughter as victims. That's
why | felt safe coming here to investigate.”
Publius was confused. “What do you mean?” he asked.
But Cassius understood immediately.
He stood up and bowed slightly to Adelaide. “Thank you for your kindness,” he said.

“Don’t thank me. I didn’t do it just for your pack,” Adelaide replied.

“These she-wolves were all coerced by Madison. Take Prima, for example. Madison held her mother’s life over
her head. To save her mom, Prima had to do whatever Madison told her to.”
“There are a lot of people like Prima, each with a different task. But Prima’s case is the most sensitive because
the weapons we found at Madison’s manor are very similar to the ones from the Ministry of Defense.”
Adelaide paused. “If | had chere to investigate first, and then reported it to Lycan
Erasmus, these she-wolves would have been considered accomplices. It would have dragged in even more
people.”
Publius finally got it.
He looked at Adelaide with a mix of emotions, but still didn’t quite grasp her full intention.
He was sure she had sother motive. “Why are you helping us? What's the catch?” he asked.
“I told you, I'm not helping you. | just don’t want to involve innocent people.”
Publius shook his head. “That's not true. Any official handling a treason case wants to involve as many people as
possible. It makes their accomplishments look better.”
Adelaide looked at him. “Do you remember the Soulrend Pack? Willow caused a huge stir there. She ruined
Melinda and Dwight’s mating, and Dwight lost his position. Soulrend was a mess after that.”
“Madison wants to take down packs and noble families that are loyal to the crown. It's hard to attack them
directly, but it’s easy to tear them apart from the inside. And when that happens, people don’t feel sorry for
them. In fact, they cheer.”
“The truth is, powerful packs and nobles are the last people who want a traitor. They need peace and stability to
keep their wealth and power. That's why if there is a traitor, these powerful packs and families will always team
up with the crown to fight them.”
“Madison has been plotting for years to break up these packs and families. If | dragged everyone into this, I'd be
playing right into her hands. Why would | let her win? Neither Blackthorn nor Mist Shadow needs the glory from
something like that.”
Publius felt a wave of conflicting emotions.
He'd assumed Adelaide was small-minded. Since she was the first female high-ranking official, he figured she'd
use this case to build her reputation and secure her position.
He never expected her to be so principled, to act without any personal gain.

It made sense now why Lycan Erasmus trusted her so much, even knowing how important the Blackthorn Pack
was.
In that moment, Publius was truly impressed, but his pride kept him from apologizing.
However, a son understands his father.

Adelaide smiled and shook her head. “No need,” she said.
