Chapter 876: Contaminated.
A roar was ripped from his scratchy throat as his skin crackled.
His skin peeled before his eyes. Tears blurred what little he could still see. The agony was unbearable. The stench of scorched flesh mixed with the filth of the residual waters.

Too little, too late! "Spineless dogs!" Zaiper roared, but all that cout was a wet, gurgling hiss.
The pain made his head spin, and everything darkened.
When he regained consciousness, Zaiper was hanging upside down, suspended in the air like a gutted animal. The pain hadn't subsided; it was still there, just as brutal.
Blood rushed to his head, dizzying him and making him feel heavy. The lower part of his body was numb. It was not just uncomfortable, it was debilitating.
"Look who finally decided to join us." That voice. The one he'd tried not to fear hearing all week. The one he hated more than anything.
Zaiper groaned as he struggled to open both eyes. Blood flooded one, burning like fire. Hissing, he snapped it shut. Through the other, he saw Daemonikai, calmly sitting in a chair across the cell, legs crossed, flipping through a pamphlet as though he were lounging in a palace courtyard rather than in a dungeon.
"You surely have other things to occupy your tbesides being here." Zaiper's voice sounded rough and hoarse. "Your female just gave birth." Daemonikai set the pamphlet aside calmly and gave him his full attention. "Don't worry about me. I'm exactly where I want to be." There was no fire in his voice. No anger. No gloating over capturing him.

Unease slithered down Zaiper's spine like a snake. What's he playing at? Zaiper ignored him. "What happened to my men?"
"Are you referring to the vampires?" Daemonikai's tone remained steady. "They're gone. The few we captured were decapitated at dawn. Their heads were returned to their king as trophies."
Zaiper closed his eye. His throat burned as he swallowed his own blood.
"Your new soldier commander was executed as well," Daemonikai added. "But that's not as important as the reason for our visit. Who is your dark mage, and where can we find him?"
