Chapter 1721:
Corrine gave a quiet nod, but a thought rose unbidden—Evelyn’s words echoed in her memory. She asked,
“Evelyn said she would translate the ancient script on the hairpin for me. Any news?”
Corrine had planned to collect the hairpin herself from Fragrance Garden, but Evelyn had departed suddenly.
Since Nate was going back to the Independent Continent anyway, he could retrieve it for her.
He absentmindedly wound a lock of her hair around his finger, playing with it.
“I'll ask my grandma once | get there,” he promised.
“Alright.”
The next morning, Corrine accompanied Nate to the airport. They sat together in the car longer than necessary,
reluctant to let the moment end. Finally, she watched him step out and disappear into the terminal, swallowed
by the flow of passengers.
Once he was gone, she told Mandy to drive her straight to the office.
Halfway there, her phone buzzed. Jules’ nflashed on the screen. “How are you holding up?” he asked.
“I'm fine,” Corrine said coolly, her tone clipped. Her gaze sharpened, a glint of cold resolve surfacing in her eyes.

There was a short pause on the other end. Jules flicked the ash from his cigarette, sounding faintly puzzled.
“Nate didn’t tell you?”
“No,” Corrine replied, her voice flat.
Pressed by her tone, Jules offered a condensed version of events.

“So, the Garcia family gave up their business in Pinetree City?” Her brow lifted slightly. She stared out the
window at the scenery streaming past, her voice light, almost detached. “I expected more of a fight.”
“Fabian took a serious kick from Nate. He's still in the hospital—two ribs broken, from what | heard. Fabian is a
hothead, always charging straight ahead. But Colton? He's calculating. A retreat now allows them to stay
relevant. If they had pushed further, they would have lost everything.”
Corrine had not expected it to be over so cleanly. “If they want peace, | will not stand in their way. But their
properties in Pinetree City stay behind.”
Her tone dropped an octave. There was steel beneath her calm. “I will not let my injuries be in vain.”
“Understood,” Jules said. “Carl wants you to hold off on expanding the business to Pinetree City for now.”
“I understand.”
After the call, Corrine leaned back in
her seat and let NES driftolosed.
