Chapter 1400:

“That's not it.” Tamara shook her head. “Today's schedule was packed. She had several emotionally heavy

scenes. She spent extra trehearsing and preparing. That's why she didn’t get around to eating.”

“Why is she pushing herself like that?”

Though it sounded like a scolding, Eric's voice was heavy with concern. He shook his head. “It's not like she

needs to work to support a household...”

He glanced at Tamara. “I understand. You should go and have srest.”

“Alright, Mr. Scott.”

In the bedroom, Hadley sat beside Joy, reading softly from a picture book. The little girl's eyes had already begun

to droop.

Outside the door, someone entered quietly.

Eric stepped in and glanced toward the bed. Joy, still half-awake, managed a small greeting.

“Hello, Eric.”

“Hi, Joy.”

Eric then looked at Hadley and motioned toward the door. He kept his voice low. “I'll stay here with her. You

should go to the dining room.”

“Why?” Hadley asked, confused.

“Just go. You'll see.”

He didn’t offer an explanation. Instead, he reached for her hand and gently pulled her up, then sat beside Joy in

her place. He gave her a small wave. “Go on.”

Why the rush?

Not wanting to disturb Joy, who was barely awake, Hadley didn’t argue. She stepped out and closed the door

quietly behind her.

As she headed downstairs, the smell of food drifted toward her, warm and comforting.

Her stomach growled. Loud enough for one of the servants by the table to hear.

“Good evening, Miss Pearson,” the servant said kindly, smiling.

“Good evening.” Hadley returned the smile. “Do you work in the south wing?”

When she first moved in, Eric had introduced her to the entire staff. He said it was important for her to recognize

everyone—ijust in case someone with ill intentions tried to slip in unnoticed.

But this servant... she didn’t recognize him. She was sure they hadn’t met before.

“No.” The man smiled and shook his
