Chapter 1439:
“So what do | do now?” He glanced helplessly at his beloved car, regret already tightening in his throat. “Don’t
tellI'm about to lose my freedom.” If he'd known how ruthless Melvin could be, he would have run the other
way. Regret clung to him like sweat in summer.
“I'll talk to him,” Jessica finally said, out of options. “I'll tell him to stay out of my business.”
“No way!” Jack rejected the idea before she even finished.
Jessica’s brows drew together. “Why not?”
“He toldnot to say a word to you about what happened today,” Jack confessed, his voice low with nerves. “If
| go against that, I'm finished.” The fear in his eyes wasn’t fake. He was genuinely scared of Melvin.
Jessica pressed her fingertips to her temples. This whole thing was spiraling fast.
“Why don’t you just go after him again?” Jack suggested weakly. “If he doesn’t say yes, don’t let go. Cling to him

“Absolutely not,” Jessica snapped, sharp as glass. If she had to beg for love, then it wasn’t love at all.

“Yours,” Jack muttered. “It's the car | used to find you.”

him. That way, he'll think | figured it out myself.”
“You sure that’s gonna work?” Jack asked, uncertainty flashing in his eyes.
Jessica nodded once. It wasn’t perfect, but it was the best she could do.
Jack sighed, resigned for now. But in his heart, he'd already decided that if something like this happened again,
he’d confess everything to Melvin. This fake marriage was turning into a full-blown nightmare.
When the call ended, Jessica pulled up the security feed without wasting a second. And there it was, clear as
daylight—Melvin cornering Jack in the driveway.
For a second, she didn’t even know how to feel. It was sweet, having someone protect her like that. But if she
had really married Jack, Melvin’s reaction would have thrown her into complete chaos. She captured a
screenshot from the footage, choosing one that clearly showed Melvin’s face.

But she didn’t send it right away. If she confronted him now, Melvin would instantly know that Jack had spilled
the truth. She waited.
It wasn’t until almost eleven at night that she finally removed Melvin from her blocklist, attached the photo, and
added a message: “Care to explain what this is supposed to mean?”
