Nyla’s eyes gleamed with curiosity. “Then how did they get in?”
“Think her boyfriend’s someone important?” Nyla’s rented date chimed in, narrowing his eyes as if Melvin’s face
stirred sfaint recognition.
“Since when do successful men look like that? Young, good-looking, and thoughtful?” Nyla scoffed with a dry
laugh. In her mind, a woman like Jessica, who had been single for decades, could never land a man of that
caliber. “Even if someone like that exists, he'd never waste his ton her.”
The group fell silent, unsure how to respond.
As annoying as Nyla sounded, she wasn’t entirely wrong. There were plenty of rich heiresses out there—the
three of them included. In their eyes, Jessica was no better than they were.
“Why don’t we just go ask?” Rena Payne suggested, tilting her chin toward the staff by the entrance.

Jack, who was currently getting an earful at home, suddenly straightened like it was a work emergency. “It’s a
friend. | need to take this.” Phone in hand, he ducked out of the room, eyes flashing with relief.
When he saw Nyla’s non the screen, he hesitated for a beat before answering.
“Did you know Jessica’s got a boyfriend now?” Nyla asked, drawing the words out slow, like honey dripping from
a spoon.
“Yeah,” Jack answered lazily, pacing the stone path in his garden. “Why?”
“His nis Melvin Swain. You know him?” Nyla glanced at her friends as she spoke, gauging their reactions.
