Chapter 1372: "Lone Ranger gave up your location. You weren't hard to trace." He pulled out a small box, no larger than a ring case, and held it out. "This will help suppress the toxins in your system. I've tested your blood. The toxins are inherited. To get rid of them completely, you'll need to find where they cfrom." Within the Red Florganization, only Leif was aware of Corrine's condition. There was no hiding it from the man responsible for keeping them alive.

Back when she suddenly had a relapse, it had been Leif who stabilized her. Without him, she wouldn't have made it.

She turned the box over in her hand, its smooth surface warming her palm before curling her fingers tightly around it.

Her lips curved into a grateful smile. “Thanks.” Leif's brow creased. "No need to get formal with me." Corrine gave a light shrug, her eyes catching the bar light like starlight on the sea. "Force of habit." Leif nodded toward the sand. "Ease up on the alcohol. Want to walk for a bit?" Corrine set her drink aside. "Why not?" They wandered down the beach, trading stories and laughter about many things. When the sky darkened, Leif checked his watch. "It's getting late. Wantto take you back?" She nodded. "Sure." Forty minutes later, the car eased to a stop in front of the hotel. Corrine reached for her seatbelt, unclicking it as she prepared to leave, when Leif suddenly asked, "You really don't plan on going home?" Her hand froze mid- motion.

She lowered her face to hide her emotions. After a brief silence, she lifted her chin, her expression steady. "I'll go back." The headquarters of the Red Flhad once been her home. Of course she wanted to return.

Corrine gave a nod, opened the door, and stepped into the night. As she approached the hotel, she noticed far fewer surveillance personnel lingering nearby.

On the surface, everything looked normal. But she felt a faint ripple of unease inside her.

Shaking it off, she pulled out her room key and let herself in.

When the door swung open, the hallway light spilled into the darkness ahead like a spotlight, slicing through the shadows. As she stepped in, she sensed a shift in the air.

Someone else—an intruder-was there.

Corrine snapped to attention, a fierce, m her fiery sharpness flaring behind her eyes.

She moved to pull back, muscles tensing-but the intruder was faster. A hand shot out clamping around her wrist and yanking her hard into the room.

Corrine's fist shot forward on instinct, but her opponent moved like a m shadow already attuned to her rhythm. He caught her wrist mid-air, smooth and effortless, as if he had rehearsed the moment a hundred times before.
